Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has started investigating cooking-oil making company, Sun Seed Oil for allegedly discharging waste into one of the rivers in Gongweya village in Lilongwe rural.
MHRC Executive Director, David Nungu while confirming the investigations, said they will make thier findings public.
The Commission has deployed investigation team just weeks following a story by local media exposed oil waste spills from the company into the village in Lilongwe Rural.
Sun Seed Oil Company General Manager, Manos Kumar said they will conduct their own investigation while promising to take appropriate action on complaints from the community.
Communities from the village are accusing the company of negligence that led to the spillage, saying their lives are now at risk.NE
