Two Men Arrested For Possessing Fake Currency In Karonga

Police in Karonga district have arrested two men who were severely beaten by an angry mob for allegedly being in possession of fake bank notes.

The two, identified as Patrick Mhango 27 years old and John Mwangwelo 29, were found in possession of fake K2000 notes amounting to K58,000.

They were cornered by a barman at Club Erosion within Karonga Boma where the two had gone to drink beer. Angry people pounced on the two before they were whisked away.

According to police, incidents of fake currency are on increase in the district. On Saturday owner of Planet bar at the Boma also reported to police about seven fake K2000 notes that were discovered after sales.

Two months ago three men were also arrested by police in the district on similar offence of Being Found in Possession of Fake Currency contrary to section 382 of the Penal Code.

Mhango comes from Mwenevumo village,T/A Nthalire in Chitipa district and Mwangwelo is from Mwangwelo village in the area of Paramount Chief Kyungu in Karonga district.NE
