The Tobacco Control Commission (TCC) has embarked on a survey that will determine estimated production of the green gold this year.
In every first quarter of the year the TCC conducts the survey which aides them in coming up with crop estimates for a new season.
In a statement made available to the media, the TCC discloses that it has dispatched its personnel across the country in tobacco growing districts to collect data on the expected production.
Last year Malawi produced 105 Million KGs, fetching MK153.8 Billion.
For the past two years production of tobacco has been going down owing to increased demand of contract basis grown tobacco from buyers.
However according to the TCC, they have already registered an international demand of 171 million KGs of the leaf in the 2017/2018 growing season.
Meanwhile the survey which has started this week is expected to complete on the 26th of this month with the estimates slated for release in February.NE
