Carlsberg Beer Festival Conquers Capital City

Thousands of beer lovers thronged Lilongwe Golf Club over the weekend to experience the first ever beer festival courtesy of Carlsberg Malawi.

Both the young and the old came together to enjoy the beers under Carlsberg brand with music performances from various local artists.

It was a weekend filled with fun as the artists lived up to expectations and consumers behaved, with no major incidents noted or reported.

The beer fest, according to Carlsberg Malawi brand manager Twikale Chirwa, is an event aimed at teaching consumers about the positive aspects of beer as well as taking them through the process of brewing it.

“We do appreciate the support that we get from beer lovers and we feel they deserve to understand what they drink. On top of that we reduced the prices of beer to let them afford as many beers as possible,” he said.

Chirwa said the beer fest happens all around Europe and other developed countries; hence, his company’s decision to give Malawians an international experience.

He said: “At this fest, beer was the headliner. Anything else that is taking place is secondary. We are teaching people about drinking responsibly. We are wrapping up the fest with a family day where we will
be promoting other drinks like Sobo and Coca Cola.”

He added that following the success of the debut beer fest, his company will make the event an annual event and will be rotating among the Southern, Central and Northern regions.

Artists that supported the event included Lucius Banda and Zembani Band, Anthony Makondetsa, Malceba, Black Missionaries, Skeffa Chimoto and Mizu Band.NE
